Police have warned motorists not to drive if they are tired after a crash on the M60 on Christmas Day.

The incident happened at around 6am this morning (25 December) near junction 23 on the motorway.

North West Motorway police posted this image of the charred remains of the car close to Ashton-under-Lyne turn off.

A police spokesperson said: “This is the aftermath of an RTC at 6AM this morning on the M60 near junction 23.

“The driver had just finished a 12-hour shift and fell asleep at the wheel, thankfully no serious injuries but likely to remain in hospital today.

“Please take a break if feeling tired.”
