A mountain rescue team has paid tribute to a former member of the group who has died.

Ian Brown was a dog handler in the Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue (RPMR) team in the 70s and 80s.

The RPMR team posted: “It is with great sadness we have learnt news of the passing of former team member Ian ‘Kip’ Brown.

"Kip was a dog handler in the team in the 70s and 80s, when the team was initially 'Rossendale Fell Rescue' before we became Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team as we are today. He was a dog handler within the team and a huge part of SARDA (Search and Rescue Dog Association).

“For anyone with contact of previous team members, the funeral will take place at Burnley Crematorium on Friday, December 29 at 3.15pm.”

Members left their own tributes to Mr Brown.

Brian said: “A sad loss. A man of great character and humour.”

Diane posted: “So sorry to hear this news. I remember Kip well when he assisted Bolton team. Thoughts with his family and friends.”
