A woman asleep in bed was woken at 3am by her ex-partner punching her and accusing her of cheating on him.

Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard Lee Campbell was refusing to leave and was shouting abuse about the victim and her children.

While she was on the phone to the police he approached and got hold of her around the neck.

Campbell, 29, of William Street, Blackburn, admitted to assault and criminal damage to a front door window pane.

He was remanded in custody until December 29 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared ahead of sentencing.

Nicola Mills, prosecuting, said following the assault the victim managed to get Campbell out of her house and slammed the door.

He responded by kicking the door and she rang the police for a second time and asked them to hurry.

“By the time they arrived he had left but was arrested later,” said Miss Mills.

Zabair Afzal, mitigating, said his client could not remember kicking the door or the assault.

“He had consumed alcohol that night, which is why he can’t remember what happened,” said Mr Afzal.
