Tickets are on sale for a Christmas ice rink which will open in Chorley this weekend.

Chorley's town centre is set to transform into a Winter Wonderland, offering an array of festive attractions for residents and visitors.

The highlight of the event, the real ice rink, will open on Cleveland Street tomorrow (December 9) until Sunday, January 7 with the exception of Christmas Day.

The ice rink is an impressive size of 60ft by 40ft, and skaters can book a one hour skating sessions for one time credit, but availability is limited. The ice rink will offer sessions at various times throughout the day, with different prices which visitors can check online.

As well as the popular ice rink, the Winter Wonderland on Market Street will feature a Ferris wheel, festive tipis, and children's rides for families and friends to enjoy.

The Christmas Express land train will also be travelling through the town on Saturdays and Sundays until December 17. The train's journey will take passengers from the Winter Wonderland on Market Street to the Astley Coach House.

In order to facilitate the ice rink, Cleveland Street car park, which is the smaller car park opposite the Town Hall, will be closed until Saturday, January 13.

A spokesperson for Chorley council said: “Get your skates on this Christmas and glide, pirouette and whirl across the popular real ice rink when it returns to the town centre for the festive season as part of Chorley's Winter Wonderland.

“Chorley’s Winter Wonderland, featuring a real ice rink, will return to the town centre on 9 December until 7 January (except Christmas Day).

“We’re offering the opportunity for schools and community groups to book discounted group skating sessions on the ice rink (50 per cent off the usual standard skate price) on selected dates and times.”
