Plans for an 86-bedroom hotel in a Lancashire town have been given the go-ahead.

The five-storey seafront hotel will be positioned on Marine Road Central and opposite the highly anticipated Eden Project Morecambe.

Lancaster City Council this week welcomed the plans, which will also include a restaurant, bar, coffee shop and a standalone retail unit on the ground floor of the new building.

Luke Averill, managing director of developer TAG, said the scheme is expected to start on site in 2024.

He said: "We’re delighted that this much-needed project will be built in Morecambe. More than 60 jobs will be created in the local area throughout construction and hotel operations.

“Our international hotel partner is also honoured to become a part of Morecambe’s famous seafront, one that will soon enough be home to Eden Project Morecambe.”

Consultants on the scheme, which will be built to a BREAM excellent standard, include DAY Architectural, Zerum, MB Heritage, Scalia Planning, Rockhunter, Adept, Jaw Sustainability, SVM and TPM Landscape and SK Transport.
