Drivers were being forced to take alternative routes after temporary traffic lights were deployed on a busy Blackburn road.
The traffic management system was in place on King Street near to the Home Bargains store. Traffic was backed up in both directions at rush hour as well on Wainwright Way and Montague Street as drivers attempted to join the road.
Commuters and parents attempting to reach St Wilfrid’s Academy have been affected by the delays.
At first sight it appears no work is being conducted on the section of road which has been cordoned off since Tuesday, with one lane closed.
Closer inspection at the site appears to show a defect in the road on a manhole near the bus stop. This has been sectioned off with cones.
The roadworks are not listed on the one.network which details all the latest traffic delays in around the borough.
Blackburn with Darwen Council have been contacted for an update.
