The founder of a Blackburn drinks company has been recognised at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

David Davies, founder of Sovereign Beverage Company, has been awarded Global Entrepreneur of the Year for the North West at The Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

Recognised annually as one of the most prestigious accolades in the entrepreneurial world, The Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards received more than 5,000 applications this year alone.

Making the shortlist is an achievement in its own right given the calibre of competition, underlining the significance of Sovereign Beverage Company’s win.

Previous winner James Watt, founder of BrewDog, said that winning was “better than winning the World Cup.”

Dragon's Den star Steven Bartlett has gone as far as to dub the awards as "The Grammys of Entrepreneurship," highlighting the glamour and prestige associated with the event.

Sovereign Beverage Company was founded in 2008 and has gone on to become the UK’s largest drinks company.

In the 15 years since Sovereign Beverage Company was first established, it has achieved more than 55,000HL in annual sales, landed exclusive deals with some of the UK's leading beer and cider brands, including Robinsons Brewery (Trooper by Iron Maiden), Greene King and Carlsberg Marston’s and expanded its export reach to more than 60 markets.

David said: “I’m blown away to have won such a prestigious award.

“The past few years have presented some challenges, and it has been the hard work of everybody at Sovereign that has helped us get through.

“So, I’d like to thank everybody within the company for helping me get to the position where we are getting recognised for the work that we do.

“I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Francesca James, founder of The Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards, said: “I am thrilled to witness the extraordinary achievements of this year's winners.

"Their success stories are a testament to the dynamic and innovative spirit that thrives within UK entrepreneurship.

“These inspiring entrepreneurs embody the creativity, determination, and passion that are at the heart of our nation's business success.

"Their accomplishments not only celebrate their own journeys but also light the way for future generations of innovators and business leaders”.

The Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards celebrate and champion entrepreneurs across the UK, building communities to support their endeavours at various stages of their journey.

With stiff competition and a history of recognising businesses that become household names, the awards are a beacon of excellence in the entrepreneurial landscape.
