Firefighters are to remain at the scene of a large building fire "for a number of days."
Crews were called at around 5.30am yesterday (Sunday, December 3) to a commercial building fire on Port Royal Avenue, Lancaster.
Large plumes of smoke were visible from the site and specialist equipment was used including aerial ladder platforms, a stinger, and a hazardous materials unit.
In a video posted on X, incident commander Ian Armistead said: "We were called at around 5am to reports of a building on fire. On arrival, the building was fully engulfed in fire, which has required us to send 10 fire engines and specialist vehicles to the scene to deal with the incident.
"We'd ask that local residents keep their windows and doors closed whilst we deal with this incident, and Europa Way is closed for members of the public.
"We're likely to be on scene for a number of days working with our partners to resolve this incident. We have a number of tactical plans that we're implementing to deal with it safely and effectively and we're trying to reduce the impact to the community as much as possible."
Residents are still advised to keep their windows and doors shut.
