The Blackburn 10k run returns to the streets this weekend. Here is everything you need to know.

Start times
The open age run starts at 9.30am on Sunday (3 December) and the juniors begins at 11.15am.

Some of the more accomplished runners will be in the town centre within 10 minutes of the start times. The drop off and pick up point is the Darwen End at Ewood Park.

The race should have wrapped up by midday.

Route
Starting and finishing inside Ewood Park, the course heads out onto the closed roads for a 10k route that takes in Blackburn town centre before making its way back on a looped route toward Ewood Park.

Runners head out over the iconic blue bridge, into the town centre, passing the cathedral, King George’s Hall and the central Mall before returning through Mill Hill back to Ewood Park.

Timing Chip
Runners can attached a timing chip to the bottom of their race bibs, tear this off and slot into their shoe laces.

Road closures
The main road closures to look out for are Bolton Road, King Street, Whalley Banks, Bank Top, Redlam and Stancliffe Street.

In the town centre Railway Road, King William Street and Feilden Street will be shut as well as parts of the town centre as runners make their way through the area.

Spectators
You can cheer on the runners throughout the morning. The Blues Bar at Ewood Park will be serving hot drinks throughout the event for family members and friends who are waiting for runners to return.

Charity
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s charity, ELHT&Me, were announced as the new charity partner for this year’s Blackburn 10K run.  The event is being supported by Blackburn based Star Tissue UK, with runners passing the business itself as they head back to Ewood.

Official advice for runners
Organisers say they will have marshals all around the course as well as km markers and arrows.

The course starts and finishes in Ewood Park Stadium and follows a closed road course around Blackburn town centre and Mill Hill.

There will be a safety bike ahead of the lead runner along with pacers to help along the way.

Runners are asked to discard all litter and bottles within the signed litter zone. There will be large bags and bins within this area that they will pass just after the water station.

There will be a water station at the 5k point, which runners can help themselves to as they pass.

There will also be a bottle of water waiting for participants at the finish line. Runners are recommended to bringing their own drinks to stay hydrated in the lead up to the event.
