An area of East Lancashire has been revealed as one of the safest places to live in England and Wales.

New data has revealed the Ribble Valley is the least violent area of Lancashire, and among the least violent in the country.

In contrast, the data found that Blackpool has the highest violent crime rate in England and Wales.

A spokesperson for Ribble Valley Council has praised its Community Safety Partnership, which can be used to raise and respond to safety concerns, for contributing to the results.

Only the affluent London borough of Richmond upon Thames and the rural East Sussex district of Wealden ranked as safer places.

The Ribble Valley has the third lowest violent crime rates in England, with 156.7 violent crimes per 10,000 residents, since March 2022.

Despite this district having the lowest number of violent crime cases on the list, totalling 970, the area takes third place when the population is concerned.

The Ribble Valley is the only area in the North to make the top 10, with seven of the top 10 being in the South East of England, and the other two in rural parts of the Midlands.

According to the same data, Blackpool has seen more violent crimes than any other area in England and Wales totalling nearly 770 violent crimes per 10,000 residents.

Known for its amusement park, Pleasure Beach, this town has a rich history with tourists.

Unfortunately, you may need to be careful if you have planned a trip here, as Blackpool witnessed nearly 11,000 violent crimes last year.

Ribble Valley Community partnership chair, Councillor Stewart Fletcher, said: “The Ribble Valley is a very safe and beautiful place to live.

"We work hard on the Community Safety Partnership to raise and respond to community safety concerns.

“We have a strong partnership that works collaboratively with our statutory and voluntary partners to prevent crime and respond to any community safety related issues.

"The membership includes colleagues from police, fire service, NHS, local authorities, probation service and voluntary partners.”
