Update: The road has been reopened.
A major road has been closed following a crash on the icy road this morning.
Around 8am today (November 30), police closed the A56 northbound carriageway between Rising Bridge and junction 8 of the M65.
A car crashed with the central reservation. Luckily, no one was injured from the crash.
There is queuing traffic and delays as a result of the crash this morning.
Police have advised motorists to avoid the area until the road has been reopened.
This is the second time in a row the road has been closed due to a crash.
A spokesperson for the police said: “Officers are on scene dealing with a road traffic collision on the A56 Northbound between Rising Bridge and Junction 8 of M65.
“The road has been closed in its entirety between these locations.
“Please plan your route accordingly to avoid the area.”
Traffic updates website INRIX states: “Road closed and queueing traffic due to crash on A56 Northbound from A680 Blackburn Road (Rising Bridge Roundabout) to M65 J8 (Accrington).
“This closure is a different incident to the burst water main on the southbound side.”
