The A56 has closed following a crash caused by ice on the carriageway.
Police were called at around 6.10am this morning (November 29), following reports of a crash on the A56 southbound carriageway.
A car had skidded on the ice and crashed with the central reservation. Police say the incident is a 'damage only collision' so no one has been injured.
The road closure is in place from junction 8 M65 to Rising Bridge.
Traffic updates website INRIX shows very slow moving traffic in the area as a result of the closure of the major road.
A spokesperson for police said: “Please be advised that the A56 southbound from junction 8 M65 to rising bridge is currently closed due to Ice on the carriageway.
“We are currently working with our partners to make the carriageway safe to re-open.
“We will advise when the road re-opens. Thank you for your patience.”
An update on INRIX states: “Road closed due to crash on A56 Southbound from M65 J8 (Accrington) to A680 Blackburn Road (Rising Bridge Roundabout).”
