If you have been on TikTok recently, you may have seen the new jewellery trend for  ‘permanent' bracelets.

The fine chain bracelets that are fitted to a wearer's wrist and do not have a clasp have been growing in popularity throughout 2023.

It’s something partners, friends or sometimes even families can do.

Jil Chitsa, owner of Sealed Links who lives in Blackburn, has been in the jewellery business for 10 years.

She said: "Welded bracelets have only been a thing for the past two years, and I’ve been doing them from the start of the year.”

To make the jewellery so-called permanent, Jil cuts the chain to size and then adds an additional link and fuses that together with a welder.

If you do want to take the £45 item off, you'll need to get the pliers out.

Jil's business is spreading throughout Lancashire and Greater Manchester, as she holds a number of pop-up shops for customers - including one in Blackburn this weekend.

She said: "I have a whole team working for me, but would still like to get the word out."

On this occasion, she came to my home to fit the bracelet and was extremely attentive and helpful. She offers an at-home service for no extra cost, because “who wants to be stuck in Manchester traffic?"

There were a number chain links to choose from, both in silver and gold. My partner and I decided on the sterling silver belcher and Jil gave him the thicker one at no extra cost as my wrists were “so tiny!”

The procedure took around half an hour each, with the majority of that time consisting of making the bracelets the perfect fit, the welding aspect took a number of minutes.

Her rates are much cheaper than any other similar company in both the Manchester and Blackburn areas, so she recommends people book in advance if they are wanting a home appointment.

They are so light you cannot even tell they’re on and, in the unlikely chance they do come apart, Jil says she will fix it free of charge.

Jil gives a special cloth after the appointment to clean the jewellery once a month to stop it from tarnishing.

There are also 9ct gold chains available but these are more expensive, starting at £99. She also does anklets and belly chains and you can also add charms starting at £8.

Her next pop up stall will be at Chris Shan Jewellers in Blackburn Mall this Sunday (December 3), between 2pm and 4pm.

Others will be at Spinningfields in Manchester on Wednesday, December 6 and Media City in Salford Quays on Sunday, December 10.

The minimum age is 10 and under 16s must have an adult present.
