Snow is forecast to hit Blackburn later this week as the ‘big freeze’ grips the country.

According to BBC Weather, snow is set to hit Blackburn and other parts of East Lancashire on Saturday (December 2). Light snow is also forecast for some parts of the county, including Burnley, Rossendale and Pendle on Sunday.

The week is also set to remain cold, with lows of -5°C predicted.

In Blackburn, light snow and light winds are set to hit between 5am and 10am. Sleet and light winds are forecast from 1am until 10am on Sunday.

The BBC has predicted highs of 3°C and lows of -1°C.

A yellow cold weather alert is also in place across the north west, until midday on December 4.

The Met Office’s forecast for Blackburn is different to the BBC’s. According to the weather service, snow is not currently predicted.

The Met Office say the weekend will bring a mixture of clear and cloudy skies, although temperatures are still set to remain low.

David Oliver, a Met Office deputy chief meteorologist, said: “Weather models include the prospect of an area of low pressure developing and moving in from the south or southwest. If this solution proves to be correct, we could see an area of warmer and moisture-laden air ‘bumping’ into the cold air further north.

“Along the boundary of the two air masses lies a zone across southern and central Britain where snowfall could develop fairly widely.

“Snow in any affected area is unlikely to be anything more than transient and short-lived, but it could lead to small totals and some disruption over a few hours before melting.”
