CUSTOM-made bags made from Eurovision Song Contest flags are set to go on sale tomorrow - thanks to an East Lancashire family firm.

Recycled flags promoting Liverpool's hosting of the entertainment spectacular have been fashioned into tote, lightweight shopper and multi-purpose bags in aid of Children In Need.

And the detailed work has been carried out by staff from Carradice of Nelson, which has been making cycling, hiking and camping related equipment since 1932.

Managing director David Chadwick says the design for the bags - due to the nature of the materials - is "fairly simple".

"But what you are getting is something quite unique and sustainable," he told BBC North West Today.

Celebrities including Mel Giedroyc, Rylan Clark and Radio One DJ Scott Mills are already sporting the colourful range.

Mel said: "“We had an utterly bonkers and brilliant time at Eurovision in May, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"I am thrilled there is now going to be a way for the amazing fans to get their hands on a physical piece of history from the occasion

And from tomorrow the bags will be up for sale online from the BBC Children in Need shop, with proceeds supporting activities for children and young people.

Cllr Harry Doyle, Liverpool City Council's health cabinet member, said: “When visitors arrived in Liverpool in April and May they knew without a doubt there had been a Eurovision takeover as the branding was everywhere.

“Our team was flooded with requests from people who were desperate to have a memento of their time in Liverpool and wanted to get their hands on the incredible branding we had produced as a host city.

“We wanted to make it a fair process and thanks to our great partnership with the BBC, it made sense to make sure all the money raised goes to BBC Children in Need.

“I’m expecting this to be hugely popular so my advice is to be quick if you want the ultimate Eurovision souvenir.
