A Nelson man has been fined more than £1,200 after fly-tipping household waste in April.

Arif Khan, of Rutland Street, was initially given a £150 fine after fly-tipping waste in Back Lane, in the Coldwell Reservoir area.

This was a breach of section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

He failed to pay and was instead told to attend Burnley Magistrates Court.

He did not attend court but in his absence he was found guilty of littering.

He was given the maximum penalty. He was fined £440, ordered to pay costs of £550, compensation of £96 and a victim surcharge of £176, bringing the total to £1,262.
