People from across the borough gathered in Blackburn town centre to remember those in the armed forces who have fallen in past and current wars. 

Remembrance Day is always marked as November 11 on the calendar as the First World War ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in accordance with the Armistice signed by The Allies and Germany in 1918. 

Civic dignitaries, including deputy mayor Cllr Sylvia Liddle spoke for a few moments during the event which was attended by members of the Royal British Legion - Blackburn branch.

A two-minute silence was marked by the firing of maroon rockets from the roof of the Town Hall building.

On Remembrance Sunday (November 12) Blackburn Cathedral will host a United Service of Remembrance at 9.30am after which a parade will form on King William Street, moving at 10.25am to the Corporation Park Gardens of Remembrance for a wreath laying service.
