A running club has been inspired to raise funds for a hospital charity by one of it's members.
Each year the Blackburn Road Runners club members nominate a charity at their annual general meeting and this year's charity of the year will be ELHT&Me– the official charity of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.
Members of the running club have chosen to channel their fundraising efforts towards a cause that holds personal significance for them - the Breast Cancer Care Team. This stems from the profound impact the clinical team had on one of their own, Tracy Hickey, in 2021.
Tracy Hickey experienced a period of care from the Breast Cancer Care Team, and as a gesture of gratitude, she embarked on a journey of fundraising.
Through activities such as afternoon tea parties, running events, and bake sales, she has already raised nearly £5,000 for ELHT&Me so it can benefit the Breast Cancer Care Team.
Tracy said: "As a member of Blackburn Road Runners, I am thrilled that we can collectively raise funds for the exclusive benefit of the Breast Care Team over the next 12 months.
"This is our way of giving back to the team that made a profound difference in my life and the lives of many others."
The club will raise funds through events such as the Blackburn 10k, family fun day and Christmas afternoon tea.
Blackburn Road Runners was founded in 1986 to promote running in the Blackburn area for both competition and to promote a healthy active lifestyle, catering to all running levels and abilities.
The club is also inviting individuals who share their passion for running to join as a member.
