With their boarded up windows and graffiti-daubed walls, this block of shops show why Blackburn’s Roman Road estate was deemed to be a problem area in the Eighties.
Many residents of the estate loved living there and its sense of community but it was clearly an area with some problems.
This picture was taken in 1984 after an outbreak of vandalism.
Do you remember the block of shops. What kind of shops were they?
A large amount of money was pumped into the area to improve its reputation.
