A TikTok star from Darwen has taken action, after criticising the Prime Minister for comments he made about gender at a Conservative Party conference.

Earlier this month the social media influencer, known as Max Balegde,  made a TikTok video, which at the time of writing has 2.2 million views, calling Rishi Sunak “transphobic” for some of his comments at the conference.

Max has now organised a charity fundraising event, set to take place in November, and all proceeds will go towards trans charity Not a Phase.

This is after Mr Sunak used his speech to weigh in on debates about sex education and transgender rights, in which he seemingly confused sex - a biological fact - and gender - a social construct.

Mr Sunak said: “It shouldn’t be controversial for parents to know what their children are being taught in school about relationships.

"Patients should know when hospitals are talking about men or women.

“And we shouldn’t get bullied into believing that people can be any sex they want to be.

"They can’t, a man is a man and a woman is a woman. That’s just common sense.”

A Government spokesperson said it has “a proud history of advancing LGBT rights” but added “biological sex is fundamentally important to protecting single sex spaces and providing appropriate healthcare”.

Speaking to his 3.5 million TikTok followers Max said the variety fundraising event will take place on November 8, at The Clapham Grand, in London.

Tickets for the event go on sale on today, October 20.

Max said: “Over the last few weeks I have been working tirelessly with an amazing group of people to put something together, in support of the trans community.

“I think I have found the perfect solution and I am so excited about it.

“We are doing a variety show, fundraising event.

“We are working on an amazing line-up. I wanted to let you guys [on TikTok] know first as you have been with me on this journey.

“Since I came up with the idea I have felt so much passion on the back of what was going on in the country. I have put that into action.

“I am so ready for this and there are so many faces that you will know there.

“We are working tirelessly on the line-up… all proceeds are going to charity. We have also partnered with trans-led charity Not A Phase.

“I have been so overwhelmed by this but so glad that you have all been with me on this journey.

“I am so excited and hope you are too.”

Max initially planned to organise a protest march but has since changed this plan, instead organising the fundraiser.

Max said: “I have had so much anxiety about disappointing people, or putting people in harm's way.

“Doing an incredible fundraiser for such a beautiful trans-led charity just fills me with so much pride.

“I cannot tell you just how exciting the line-up is yet, however you don’t  want to miss this show.

“Tickets go on sale this Friday... please get ready to raise some coins.”

A government spokesperson said: “The government has a proud history of advancing LGBT rights and one of the most robust legislative protection frameworks for LGBT people in the world.

“There is no place for hate crime in our society, it does not reflect the values of modern Britain, and we remain committed to ensuring these abhorrent offences are stamped out – which is why we have a robust framework to tackle it wherever it is found.”

“However, we are clear that biological sex is fundamentally important to protecting single sex spaces and providing appropriate healthcare as set out by ministers.”
