A temporary Jobcentre which opened in Blackburn during the Covid-19 pandemic has closed.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) said the temporary space that was needed during the pandemic is no longer required.

The site at The Mall has multiple signs in the window informing people of the closure.

It says the nearest Jobcentre now is the main site at Orchard House in Penny Street, in the town centre.

The temporary Jobcentre was one of 194 opened across the country and it was announced last month that 26 of these would be decommissioned.

It is not expected the closures will have an impact on services to customers and it was always maintained by the DWP the additional Jobcentres were only temporary.

A DWP spokesperson said: “We no longer need the temporary space we acquired during the pandemic to accommodate social distancing.

“The closing of our temporary sites will not reduce our levels of service, or access to face-to-face appointments.

“Customers will return to being served by their established Jobcentre and there will be no reduction in the number of Work Coaches serving customers as a result.”

It is not yet clear what will take the Jobcentre’s place at The Mall.
