A man is seeking to convert a former animal storage barn into five new homes.

The owner of Pewter House Farm near Balderstone, Abid Hussain, is seeking to turn the former barn into five homes of varying size each with their own parking spaces at the front.

Mr Hussain has had an application for these proposals rejected by the council before due to the design and external appearance of the proposed building and the provision of adequate natural light in the rooms.

However, he has returned to Ribble Valley Borough Council with new plans and remains determined to get the conversion done.

A design and access statement said: “The scheme design has created five dwellings totally within footprint of the existing barn.

“To do this it is proposed that new walls are constructed within the footprint of the building set in from the eaves of the existing roof.

“This proposal has been undertaken to recess the walls in from the front of the barn which will lessen the impact of any glazing introduced into the building and ensures that the areas conform with the legislation.

“Additional light is proposed through the existing rooflights within the building.

“The proposed works will create five new dwellings in a space that was formally used for agriculture and now has no long-term requirement under this usage.

“Each dwelling is laid out in accordance with the legislation providing two larger homes and three smaller homes.”

The three smaller homes will each have three bedrooms, two bathrooms (one ensuite), a combined living and dining area, a kitchen, and a utility room.

The two larger houses will feature the same though there will be an additional ensuite.
