Here’s a photo which now is possibly a unique historical record.
Taken in December 1977 it shows the Clock Tower Mill in Burnley which had been hit by a blaze.
The mill, which was built in 1840 was owned by Watts Slaters and was located on Sandygate. It would be destroyed in another blaze 10 years later and the site was cleared in 2004.
What makes this photo so unusual is the fire engine you can see. At the time there was a fire brigade strike and the RAF were deployed to deal with the blaze with their ‘green goddess’ fire engines
