A community music charity based at the Hothouse in Morecambe will take part of this year’s Lancaster Music Festival.

More Music is a music and education charity based at the Hothouse in Morecambe, with 30 years' experience of delivering workshops, training, performances and festivals across the district, region and beyond.

The charity seeks to build confidence and spirit in individuals and communities through the arts, especially music.

More Music will bring a series of exclusive events, workshops and performances across a number of venues.

Friday October 13

Raven Tales Returns

An interactive story show with songs, shadows and lots of joining in for children under five and their adults.

Moor Space, Dukes Theatre – £3 - £6.

Separate 45-minute sessions at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm.

Young People Stage 

Local young musical talent live on the plinth stage in Market Square, programmed by More Music’s More Media Collective.

Saturday October 14

Dhol Drumming Workshop

Reading Room, Storey Institute- Free, places limited so book in advance.

Separate 45 minute sessions with up nine participants per session at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm.

Children must be accompanied and supervised by adults.

Clapping Song 

Songs, games, music and movement for under fives and their parents/carers.

Expect to sing both new and familiar songs, including name songs, nursery rhymes, finger rhymes and action songs.

Olive Room at the Gregson Centre- Free, places limited so book in advance.

45 minute sessions at 10am and 11.30am.

Children must be accompanied and supervised by adults.

Baybeat Streetband performance

See More Music’s fantastic community streetband Baybeat perform live on the plinth.

Sunday October 15

Chinese Drumming Workshops  

Learn the basic rhythms of Chinese music using drums and other Chinese instruments and then accompany a parade with a Chinese dragon.

The Reading Room, Storey Institute – Free, places limited so book in advance.

45 minute sessions at 1.45pm and 2.45pm.

Children must be accompanied and supervised by adults.

Instant Songwriting sessions 

Write a song in 15 minutes with the songwriting team, quick and fun.

St Nicholas Arcade, Lancaster – Free, drop in – 11.30am to 1.30pm and 2pm to 4pm.

Girls Can music industry panel 

Girls Can is More Music’s programme to address gender inequalities in the music industry by supporting young female musicians and sound technicians through mentoring, support and gig opportunities.

Have your say in a panel discussion with music professionals about the representation of women in the music industry.

Auditorium, Storey Institute – Free – 3pm-4pm.

Girls Can presents Loose Articles 

Specialising in discordant, hypnotic repetition, tales of boozy nights out, and radical politics, Loose Articles are a punk quartet from Manchester with plenty to say.

Their music speaks to all those determined to get through the age of austerity with tongue in cheek, pint in hand, and two feet firmly on the dance floor.

Following their “Kick Like A Girl” tour designed to encourage more girls into the music industry, Loose Articles will be supporting Foo Fighters in Manchester next Summer.

The support act will be a band formed by young female musicians from the Girls Can project.
