A Hollywood celebrity has given a shout-out to Burnley FC and even wore the team’s shirt on a podcast.

Taylor Lautner, best known for playing werewolf Jacob Black in the Twilight franchise, spoke about the club on his podcast The Squeeze, which he hosts with wife Taylor Dome.

In the episode, which aired this week, Taylor is seen sporting Burnley’s iconic claret and blue shirt.

Taylor said NFL legend JJ Watt, who invested in the club earlier this year, even put his name on the back of the shirt.

On the podcast he said: “I caught a glimpse of myself in this camera here and I forgot what shirt I was wearing.

"I wanted to give a quick shout-out to my friend JJ Watt and Burnley Football Club.

They’re a heck of a soccer team, or football team [as the English call it].”

Burnley FC have since reposted the clip to their social media pages, adding they are “certified Team Jacob now”, referring to his role in Twilight and fan rivalry between his character and Robert Pattinson's vampire Edward Cullen.

Since the podcast episode aired Clarets fans have shared their opinion, with many surprised the American actor, who played Dale in BBC show Cuckoo, was a fan of the team.

One person said: “The collaboration we never thought we'd see or knew we'd needed.”

Another said: “It's official, Taylor is a Burnley supporter!”

“We always had him down as a Wolves fan,” joked another.

Another said: “Taylor Lautner is a Burnley fan? I'm speechless and very curious”.

A fifth commenter said: “Didn’t know boy Tay is a Burnley fan! Does he have a favourite player?”

The new American interest in the Clarets follows the takeover of the club by ALK Capital, headed up by Alan Pace, in 2020.

Earlier this year JJ and his wife Kealia Watt announced they were investing in Burnley FC.

American footballer JJ Watt represented the Houston Texans and the Arizona Cardinals in a distinguished career in which he won three NFL defensive player of the year awards, while Kealia represented Houston Dash and Chicago Red Stars in women's football.

“When you invest in a club that’s been around since 1882, you must have great respect for its history and tradition,” the pair said in a statement.

“We understand that not only are we investing in the squad and manager, we’re investing in the town and its people.

“We take that responsibility very seriously and intend to work hard in earning their trust and support.

“We believe that Burnley is a special club with incredible supporters and we want to help continue to elevate its global profile on its return to the Premier League.”
