One of the oldest mosques in town is hosting a family fun day to raise funds for renovations.

The Masjid-e-Rizwan on Newton Street is being re-built by the Kokni Muslim Association who were given planning permission to extend the mosque.

The estimated cost of the renovations is said to be upwards of £800,000, funded by private donations, and the new mosque will accommodate 450 worshippers.

The Fun Day takes place throughout the day on Sunday (October 1) at The Ivy Centre. All are welcome with a host of activities for families taking place.

The mosque said the fundraising will help to pay for the brickwork of the extension. The total amount required for the brickwork is £175,000 and the mosque are short of £20,000.
