This photo records a key moment in the history of the rail network in East Lancashire.
It was taken on September 8, 1962 and shows the 1.25pm Clitheroe to Blackburn train crossing the Whalley Arches.
This was the last day of scheduled passenger trains on the Hellifield line.
The line remained open to goods trains and the odd special excursion. Then in 1994 passenger services between Blackburn and Clitheroe were reinstated after an absence of 32 years after a public campaign.
