A medical centre in Rishton is delighted after improving its rating, in an inspection from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Last year The Weavers Practice, on High Street, was rated as requires improvement.

Inspectors found two regulation breaches and told the provider to make essential changes in order to improve their rating.

After listening to the advice of inspectors the practice has improved its rating to good in all areas.

The aim of the inspection was to ensure medication reviews were undertaken and recorded, that staffing records were up-to-date and to give staff up-to-date safeguarding training.

Inspectors found no breaches in regulation and praised the practice for:

  • Providing care in a way that kept patients safe and protected them from avoidable harm.
  • Patients received effective care and treatment that met their needs.
  • Staff dealt with patients with kindness and respect and involved them in decisions about their care.
  • The practice team recognised the challenges of ensuring patient access to the right clinical care and treatment and was working with the primary care team on a quality improvement initiative to seek ways to improve patient access to timely appropriate care and treatment.
  • The way the practice leadership team worked with their staff promoted the delivery of high-quality, person-centre care.
  • The nursing staff team had the autonomy and support of the practice to develop strategies and protocols to support patients with end of life care and to understand and better self-care with health conditions such as diabetes

The inspection report said the practice can improve further by better monitoring patient consultations for those team members working in advanced clinical roles, and to update the complaints procedure to include a timescale of when complainants can expect a response.

Katie Webb, practice manager, said the new rating reflects the commitment and hard work staff have put in over the last 12 months.

She said: “This is an amazing achievement for the practice. We have been faced with quite a few challenges over the past couple of years, so to have received this review is just fantastic.

“It reflects the dedication, commitment and hard work our team has given over the past 12 months to improve our services and it has given us a great confidence boost moving forward.

“Well done The Weavers Practice.”
