A Burnley-born actor is set to star in the new series of Brassic which will return to screens tonight (September 28).

Muzz Khan, who also grew up in Nelson, plays a character called Adyan Khan who makes his first appearance in season five.

Muzz, 42, joined the cast in August last year and described his character as a “quirky one”.

The former Marsden Primary School pupil said: “Adyan is in series five as a new member of the gang.

“I have to remain tight-lipped about whether we'll see him again.... my lips are sealed!

“Adyan's a quirky one. He's got a great heart but is very naive. He's also pretty kooky and slightly larger than life.

“He was such a joy to play. I had great fun creating him.

“Adyan helps mastermind the first ‘criminal act’ in episode one and continues assisting the gang with their deviousness and shenanigans throughout the series.”

Muzz said he loved filming with the Brassic cast and crew.

He said: “Brassic is one of those rare shows on television that is as insane to film as it is to watch.

“Every day was different and crazy - matching the high-jinx and dramatised illegality of the plots.

“One day you're in a (fake) cannabis farm, then a strip club, then a beach, then a pub, then a graveyard, then an art gallery, then the moors!

“You don't get such a variety of locations with most TV shows. Brassic is a one-off.”

Muzz, a former Accrington and Rossendale College pupil, said he had a fantastic time on set with cast members, including Chorley’s Joe Gilgun, who plays Vinnie,  and Michelle Keegan, who plays Erin.

One memory that stands out for him was when he was filming a scene in a Blackpool arcade.

He said: “One memorable and stand-out story from the set was when we had some down time in Blackpool. We were filming in the arcades and Michelle found those toy grabber claw machines.

“She said ‘I'm a whizz at these’. I didn't believe her. She then proceeded to get a toy almost every single time she put a quid in.

“ I couldn't believe it. She got one each for all of my kids.”

Muzz, who studied acting at London drama school Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, said Joe and the other cast members were “utter legends”.

He said: “Joe can talk the hind legs off a donkey, in a good way.

“He's full of crazy, interesting stories and is electric to be around – he is a proper lad.

“They're all such a welcoming bunch. Michelle's got an enormous following and fanbase, yet there's no airs and graces with her. No ego. She'll stop and give a fan the selfie or attention they're craving and is a really good sport when it comes to that.”

Bacup doubles as the backdrop to the series, the fictional town of Hawley, and the cast have been spotted filming in the town on several occasions over the last few months.

Muzz said it is a “privilege and a blessing” to film such a popular show near his hometown.

He said: “There's something about being northern and doing good, quality work in your own county that makes you so proud.

“The acting profession tends to take you everywhere. I've been to Los Angeles, Barcelona, Germany, Poland and across the breadth of the UK.

“Nothing quite gives you the buzz and pride of working in your own ends, man. It's a real privilege and blessing.”

The new season is set to take off from the dramatic events of the series four finale.

Vinnie and the gang face big repercussions from their entanglements with the dangerous McDonagh brothers and powerful drug buyer Manolito.

With both criminal big-wigs now on his case, Vinnie needs to negotiate his exit strategy – and fast.

But there is a lot on his mind, especially as he’s still trying to figure out what is going on between him and Erin. Can they ever actually be together, and does she really want to share this unhinged and dangerous life with him?

Brassic season five will air on Sky Max, at 10pm on Thursday, September 28.
