The M61 was closed after a drink driver crashed into the central barrier, police have said.
The incident happened early on Saturday morning and led to disruption and delays on the northbound stretch of the motorway between the Junction 6 for Horwich and Junction 8 for Chorley.
The motorway was closed for 30 minutes as recovery took place.
A Lancashire Road Police spokesperson said: “M61 closed this morning (September 23) for about 30 minutes due to this drink driver crashing into lane 3.
"They thought they were OK to drive the morning after but were still over the limit.”
