A pub in Burnley has been crowned the 'Best Pub to Watch Sport' at the Great British Pub Awards 2023.
The Royal Dyche in Yorkshire Street was originally known as 'The Princess Royal', but was renamed after the ex-Burnley manager Sean Dyche when he secured European football for the first time in over 50 years during his tenure at the club.
It was officially unveiled by Burnley legend Rocky Mills on June 1, 2018, with plenty of Claret fans present.
As Dyche shares the same birthday as Henry VII, this has heavily influenced the pub's signage; what started out as a joke written on an A-Board soon became a global media phenomenon.
Posting on Facebook, landlady Justine Lorriman said: "We’ve only gone and f***ing won it.
"Thank you to everyone for your support over the last decade - this award means the absolute world to us! Best Pub to Watch Sport. Couldn’t be any prouder right now."
Organiser of the Great British Pub Awards 2023, The Morning Advertiser, announced The Royal Dyche as the winner for the 'Best Pub to Watch Sport' on X, formally known as Twitter, and said: "I'm sure it's the happy place of many Burnley fans - alongside some familiar United and Liverpool ones too!"
The Royal Dyche's story officially began on June 1, 2013, where a temporary favour was soon escalated into a life's work and legacy for the landlady, Justine.
On Wednesday, July 27, 2022, Sean Dyche visited the pub and shook hands with all the staff and every customer in the pub before enjoying a few pints, finishing off with a special Q&A in the beer garden.
It was reported Dyche was really blown away with the pub, and amazed with how impressive the outdoor areas were.
After years of hard work the pub has soon become one of the most popular drinking venues in Burnley.
