Heavy rain and strong winds are set to batter the county today (September 19) and we have the full details.

Across East Lancashire wind speeds are expected to reach 39mph, with heavy rain forecast for most of the day.

On Monday (September 18), the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain which is in place until 6pm on Wednesday.

The whole of East Lancashire is covered by the warning.

Heavy rain is expected across the North West and in parts of North Wales which could lead to flooding of homes and businesses.

Public transport services are likely to be affected, with journey times taking longer, while spray and flooding could have the same effect for driving on the roads.

The heaviest and most persistent rainfall during this period is expected to affect the high ground of northwest England, northwest Wales and south Wales.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, will affect many parts of the UK on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Over the course of this 36 hours in these areas, 50-100 mm of rainfall is likely to accumulate widely, with as much as 150-200mm in some locations.”
