A Mercedes-Benz GLE was stopped last night after it was driven the wrong way down the M6 having performed a three-point turn.

Traffic officers received reports in the early hours of September 18 of a car travelling the wrong way on the motorway near Garstang.

A short time later they also received reports of the same car being driven erratically on the A6.

When the car was eventually stopped, it was discovered the driver only held a provisional licence, and was also more than double the drink drive limit.

They blew 96 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath at the roadside, with the legal limit being 35mcg per 100ml of breath.

The driver also informed officers they were following a sat-nav.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "Reports of a Merc travelling contra on M6 at Garstang having made a three-point turn.

"Minutes later reports made of same car driving eratically on A6.

"Car stopped, driver blew 96 at the roadside and only held a provisional license, said they were following sat-nav."
