WE love to toast the efforts of local venues around East Lancashire in our Pub of the Week feature.

This time we headed to Burnley to find out about a popular venue - The Woodtop Inn.

Name of the pub

The Woodtop Inn

Address of the pub:

Accrington Road, Burnley

Landlord/landlady name:

Andrew Higson

How long have you been the landlord/landlady for?

Three and a half years

Bar staff and their names:

Me and Ashley Ballinger

Give us some history about the pub

It is one of the oldest pubs on Accrington Road and it used to be a farmhouse before it was turned into a pub. It is also one of the last ones (pubs) on the road. We have been trying to keep the beer cheap for everyone. We have also tried to do what the customers want and are looking for. We do bingo and games nights and I do a 'Play your Cards right'. We try to cater for all the different types of clientele.

Is food served? Is so what's on the menu?

No, we only serve beer.

Is there a beer garden

Yes, we have a beer garden, it is probably bigger than the pub

Do you have any darts/snooker/pool teams

Most popular drink served is:

It would have to be Holsten Beer then Dark Fruits and Birra Moretti.

Most memorable moment:

The opening weekend after COVID was one of the busiest times. We created a beer garden and you could not get a seat. Lots of pubs struggled with the restrictions but we got gazebos and benches and people came to us. Most weekends are the highlights as we are so busy

Do you have an entertainment line-up?

We have singers on occasionally and my brother-in-law does some DJ-ing on Friday nights

Have you faced any challenges within the industry?

It is just the energy prices really and we want people to keep coming back to you but the costs are higher

The best thing about running a pub is

Meeting people and trying to keep them happy. It is really good seeing the smiles on their faces when they are happy.

The worst thing about running a pub is..

Misbehaving people and then the stress of the bills.

The perfect hangover cure is...

Hair of the dog
