A company that buys and sells Lego has celebrated the launch of its app by filling a swimming pool with more than 1.6million pieces of the bricks.
WeBuyBricks is a sister company to WeBuyBooks, both based in Rawtenstall, which provides an affordable way for Lego lovers to buy and sell their bricks.
Users can sell their bricks to the company online by weighing them and posting them to the company for free, and receiving cash for their unwanted Lego in return.
This has now been made even easier by the creation of the company’s app, the launch of which celebrated by filling a 12-foot swimming pool with more than two tonnes of bricks.
Marketing manager Ben Wadsworth said: “It’s been a great day and a fantastic way to showcase the WeBuyBricks brand. Saving all these bricks from landfill gives them the chance to be loved and enjoyed all over the world again and again!”
Marketing executive Chloe Thomas added: “Until now, there has never been a market for buying and selling used Lego on such a huge scale. We wanted to create an affordable and sustainable way of buying Lego without breaking the bank.
“We filled the pool with Lego to celebrate the launch of our app and the end of summer. It was great to get all of our colleagues involved with such an exciting event and come together to celebrate the success of the company in its first few months.
“There are over 1.6million pieces of Lego in the pool, and it weighs approximately 2.5 tonnes.”
The company says sales of Lego have exploded, with £3bn of new Lego being sold each year worldwide.
WeBuyBricks was launched earlier this year, 11 years after WeBuyBooks was started to help people find affordable books and prevent many more going to landfill.
