A Blackburn pub says it will give away free fish and chip dinners later this year, to continue the legacy of a generous man who has died.

The Clifton Arms, in Grimshaw Park, will give away the dinners at Christmas time with a conditional date of December 8.

The pub will give away around 50 fish and chip dinners to help keep the poor, lonely and vulnerable fed around the festive season.

Theresa Goldson, originally from Blackburn but now living in Australia, has generously donated £250 for the scheme in memory of her late husband, Peter Goldson, who died six months ago.

This is following on from the success of last year’s free fish and chip event, which was also hosted at the pub.

The pub, thanks to sponsor Theresa as well as Old Mill Hill Chippy in New Chapel Street, gave away around 35 fish and chip dinners.

The fish and chip shop will once again be supplying the food at this year's event.

Theresa said: “I would love to continue Pete’s legacy of helping people in need at Christmas and would love to sponsor another fish and chip day.

“This time I am raising the bar and pledge £250.

“In for a penny in for a pound, [it will be] bigger and better next time around.”

Landlady of the pub Carole Davis said she is grateful for the donation and cannot wait to feed the poor and vulnerable this December.

She hopes the donation will feed more than 50 people.

She said: “We are extremely grateful that the Blackburn community is helping to bring the community together as one, even from across the globe

“Seeing the smiles [of those we help] is priceless. Together, we can help make the community feel connected

“The community will appreciate this kind gesture. It means so much to so many community members.”
