A road closure is in place as a huge fire breaks out at a building this morning.

Station Road in Bamber Bridge is shut as emergency services are dealing with the incident at the commercial building.

At 5.10am today (September 6), six fire engines from Bamber Bridge, Penwortham, Preston, Leyland, Chorley, Fulwood, rushed to the scene of the blaze. 

Police have closed Station Road while crews tackle the fire and are advising people to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

At 7.50am, the incident was reduced to four fire engines.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We’re currently at the scene of a road closure on Station Road, Bamber Bridge at the junction of Club Street.

“The road is closed whilst we assist our fire colleagues and we anticipate this will be closed for a considerable amount of time. Please avoid the area if possible and find alternative routes.

“We’ll provide an update once cleared and thank you in advance for your patience.”

Firefighters have been at the scene since around 5am and are expected to remain there for a while longer.

Members of the public are being asked to keep all windows and doors closed.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Six fire engines, together with an aerial ladder platform from Preston and a stinger from Blackburn, attended a commercial building fire on Station Road, Bamber Bridge.

“The incident involved a commercial property approximately 20m by 10m in size. Firefighters used two jets to extinguish the fire.

“Crews currently remain in attendance. Please avoid the area. Keep all windows and doors closed if you are affected by smoke.

“Station Road will remain closed for some time while we deal with this incident.”
