A Blackburn hairdresser has reopened for town centre business in a new site after her old salon flooded nine months ago.

Dark Secrets, in Northgate, is owned by Haseena Hamid, who has been a hairdresser in Blackburn town centre for more than 20 years.

Last year, her old premises on Lord Street West was flooded a week before Christmas after pipes in the upstairs office froze, then burst.

Haseena said:"The week before Christmas we had lots of bookings and it was just madness, a lot of my clients have had to wait for when I opened again which is not ideal.

"It's been crazy busy since we opened the new premises. I'd like all of my previous clients to know I'm back in town and ready for business

"We have also had a lot of passing trade and customers coming in after seeing our social media, and they have got to know us and where we are now."

Haseena had issues with her landlord not offering to help after the pipes burst, which forced her to close.

She got in touch with Blackburn with Darwen Council for help, and thanks to the council was offered a new location in Northgate in February as part of the regeneration of the area, and it also helped her move in.

After nine months of work, she reopened on the August Bank Holiday weekend, with a re-opening party inviting all her old clients to join the celebrations.

Haseena added: "I arranged it all in three days as the council told me I secured the lease just before the Bank Holiday weekend. The opening launch went really well.

"A lot of shops were closing on Northgate but since I've joined many other popular businesses have opened alongside.

"I've been in this part of town for 24 years and I would 100 per cent say that the high street has come back.

"It is an up and coming area; we needed Northgate to come back. Years ago it was so busy, and it is nice to see more and more people coming off the street today.

"When people walk in they say it is so beautiful and boujee and Instagrammable. We also now have a toilet when we didn't before.

"There's also a room upstairs that I'd love to lease to someone as a beauty room or tattoo studio."
