Lancaster’s only New Look store is set to close this week and some customers are devastated.

The fashion retailer is set to close its branch, at Marketgate Shopping Centre, on Friday, September 2.

A spokesperson for New Look hopes customers will continue to shop at other locations and online. The company did not comment on the future of other Lancashire stores.

After making the announcement online dozens of fans expressed their sadness and disappointment at the news.

One person said: “That's so disappointing. I like New Look and I know you're still online but I prefer coming in store and trying things on.

“Everyone shops online these days but I prefer the old fashioned way don't want to look at a picture of something on a model it can be hard to tell whether it will fit and suit me without seeing it in person and trying it on.

“Such a shame for all the staff too losing their jobs.”

Another said: “Absolutely gutted, my go to place.

“The staff are always brilliant- they know what will suit your body and are so helpful.

“Such a shame for Lancaster."

“This is awful,” said another.

It has been a hard year for high street shops this year.

In February, New Look announced plans to cut more than 500 warehouse jobs.

Wilko tumbled into administration two weeks ago, putting the future of its 400 shops in doubt.

Earlier this month, posters appeared at Wilko’s branch in The Mall Blackburn advertising an “administration sale”. The chain also has branches in Burnley, Nelson and Accrington.

Administrators from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) have sought offers from interested firms in an effort to save jobs and stores.

The GMB union said any bid that guarantees jobs “must be prioritised”.
