An East Lancashire teacher has completed the Reykjavik marathon for a second consecutive year, this time in memory of one of her close friends.

Chris Fay, who works as Lancashire Adault Learning's curriculum leader at Nelson and Colne College, took up running in 2017 as a means to cope with personal loss after the passing of her mother to lung cancer.

She participated in marathons, raising money for Macmillian Cancer Support along the way.

Early this year, Chris lost her close friend, Anthony, to cancer, and inspired by his memory, she chose to dedicate this year’s Reykjavik marathon to him and raise funds for St Rocco’s Hospice, an organisation that provided vital care to Anthony at the end of his life.

As Chris took on the Reykjavik marathon once again, she outdid herself by setting a new personal best over that distance.

Chris is still raising money for St Rocco’s Hospice, which provides specialist care and support to individuals and their families facing life-limiting illnesses.

She has already reached her target of £200 but is looking to keep the number rising.
