The August bank holiday weekend is nearly here but will the weather be on our side?

It has been a largely wet summer so far and Lancashire has faced weather warnings and flooding.

Storm Betty brought high winds and heavy rain to parts of the UK on Friday (August 19) and Saturday.

This weekend is looking more settled but light showers are currently in the forecast for parts of East Lancashire.

It is also set to be gusty with wind speeds expected to reach 24mph in parts.

In all parts of East Lancashire, including Blackburn with Darwen, sunny intervals with light showers have been forecast on Saturday (August 26) and Sunday.

Monday is set to be cloudy with a chance of showers.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “[This weekend] remains changeable with sunshine and showers through the period.

"Showers could turn heavy at times, carrying the risk of thunder with some strong winds at times. Turning a little cooler.”

Blackburn with Darwen’s weekend forecast

  • Friday, August 25: Sunny intervals changing to light showers by lunchtime Highs of 17°C and lows of 11°C. Wind speeds of 22mph.
  • Saturday, August 16: Sunny intervals changing to light showers by late morning. Highs of 17°C and lows of 11°C. Wind speeds of 22mph.
  • Sunday, August 27: Sunny intervals changing to light showers by midday. Highs of 17°C and lows of 12°C. Wind speeds of 24mph.
  • Monday, August 28: Cloudy changing to light showers in the afternoon. . Highs of 18°C and lows of 12°C. Wind speeds of 21mph.

From music festivals and outdoor theatre performances to gravy wrestling and canal festivals, plenty of events and activities are taking place across Lancashire this weekend.

The annual three day scarecrow festival in the village of Higham, Burnley will also return this Bank Holiday weekend at Higham Hall Road.
