East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s charity, ELHT&Me, has been announced as the new charity partner for this year’s Blackburn 10K run.

The annual race will take place on Sunday, December 3, and starts and finishes at Ewood Park, the home of Blackburn Rovers FC, and attracts hundreds of runners from across the county.

The event is being supported by Blackburn based Star Tissue UK, with runners passing the business itself as they head back to Ewood.

Denise Gee, head of charity at ELHT&Me, said: “We are thrilled to be the new charity partner for the 2023 Blackburn 10k, the year we celebrate 75 years of our wonderful NHS.

“We are proud to be collaborating with Blackburn-based leading manufacturer of hygiene paper products, Star Tissues, and encourage runners of all abilities to sign up to take part.

“It is a great inclusive event; for the beginner, the regular runner and those in between, to get active and raise funds for a cause that benefits everyone. Come and join us!”

“With four months to go, it is a fantastic time to sign up to support our local NHS hospital charity.

"Make use of the NHS Couch to 5k app to begin your running journey or make use of the dedicated support from the charity team to train for a new personal best and receive quality support with your fundraising from sign up to the finish line.”

Star Tissue UK are one of the leading tissue manufacturers in the country and based in Mill Hill.

The company said they were keen to support local causes, promote healthy initiatives as well as the ELHT&Me charity.

Managing director at Star Tissue UK, Khalid Saifullah, said: “We are honoured to be collaborating with ELHT&Me to raise awareness and funds to help our local NHS go further – for our friends, families and the whole community.

“We hope people from across the region will join up this year and help raise money for a worthy cause.”

Charitable funds enable ELHT&Me to continue supporting the 700,000 patients treated each year.

This includes specialist seating to assist with early patient mobilisation, outdoor spaces of reflection, children’s play resources, comfort packs to provide patients with an emergency admission to hospital with a toothbrush, body wash and essential toiletries and incredible advances in technology and medical equipment from laser scanning to robotic surgery.
