A driver who was allegedly more than three times over the drink drive limit was arrested after crashing with a barrier on the M65.

Police using the drone unit spotted the vehicle making its way onto the hard shoulder at the terminal island roundabout on the M65 close to Bamber Bridge.

When traffic officers arrived they found the car had crashed with a barrier causing damage to the front end.

The driver was breathalysed at the scene and reportedly provided a reading of 108 - the legal limit is 35 - and was arrested.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Vehicle seen by HQ99 drone unit making its way slowly to the hard shoulder at terminal island M65.

"Reason why was soon apparent, driver had collided with a barrier causing damage.

"Driver provided positive specimen of breath with roadside reading of 108 and was arrested."
