A woman threw a garden ornament through the window of her ex-partner’s mother’s home.

Blackburn magistrates heard the attack had left the victim “terrified” to go out of her home.

The court was told she was also scared of bumping into Elena Hibbert if she went out because she was scared of what she would do to her.

Hibbert, 39, of Lynwood Avenue, Darwen, pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

She was ordered to pay £400 compensation and made subject to a restraining order for six months which prohibits any contact with the victim for six months.

District Judge Alexandra Preston said the defendant’s behaviour had been very upsetting for the victim.

“She should be able to live in her house without fear of you destroying her property,” said District Judge Preston.

Graeme Tindall, prosecuting, said the victim was out when she received a call from the police to say her property had been damaged.

“The defendant had taken a garden ornament from a neighbour’s garden and thrown it threw the window,” said Mr Tindall.

He read a victim personal statement in which she said she was terrified to go out in case Hibbert returned to her house.

She said she was also scared what Hibbert might do to her if she saw her.

She no longer parked her car outside her own home because she didn’t want the defendant to know what vehicle she was driving for fear she would cause damage to it.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client had left the complainant alone since the incident five months ago.

“She does not want me to oppose the making of a restraining order,” said Mr Price.
