A local authority has finally served a noise abatement notice to tackle 'loud thumping music' from a tanning salon which the householder next door claims has made his life a misery.

Andrew White has welcomed the move but complained that Blackburn with Darwen Council has dragged its feet over acting on the nuisance.

He originally complained about the music from Tan Time next door to his house in Burnley Road, Blackburn, in March.

But it was only after his concerns were featured in the Lancashire Telegraph earlier this month that the council served a noise abatement notice on the business.

Mr White said: "I am pleased the notice has been served.

"I hope it will have some impact on the loud thumping music from next door but I am not confident.

"We have heard no difference yet. It is still make my and my family's life a misery.

"Tan Time have 14 days to do something.

"To be honest the council have dragged their feet over this.

"They just seem to have given the salon another 14 days to carry on.

"I am proposing to make a complaint to the council about how they have handled this whole thing."

John Wood, Blackburn with Darwen Council's principal environmental protection officer, confirmed the council had served the notice.

He said: "It directs them to “abate the nuisance” caused by music arising from the premises.

"We have given them 14 days to do this. We are keen to work with Tan Time to bring about a suitable solution to the problem."

Mr White has said the noise from the salon is constant from 10am to 8pm, and that there were three visits from officials with sound measuring equipment without any action by the tanning salon or the council to stop the nuisance before the article earlier this month.

The Lancashire Telegraph has approached Tan Time for comment.

Previously director Rebecca Smith said the salon had received no complaints before Mr White moved in but still hoped to resolve the issue by mutual agreement.

Earlier this month she said: "We are aware if the complaint. I have turned the music on our top of the range sunbeds down but the customers aren't happy.

"We are a business. The salon has been here 20 years and we have had no complaints unit Mr White moved in about five months ago. We are not noisy.

"We are working with the council. I am hoping we can come to some solution by mutual agreement."
