Two thrill seekers attended Blackpool’s annual Air Show at the weekend, scaling the 518ft Blackpool Tower for a selfie with a Red Arrows display team.

The brave duo climbed the tower for a chance to grab once in a lifetime pictures of the display which thousands of people flocked to see on Saturday and Sunday, August 12 and 13.

Wing Commander Adam Collins hung from the landmark’s flagpole and saluted his RAF display team as they flew past during Blackpool's annual Air Show.

Russ Edwards, a rescue, and training specialist at Arco Professional Safety Services, oversaw the daredevil snap.

Armed with a 360-degree camera on a long fibre pole that was tethered to him, he was able to create the ultimate ‘selfie stick’ to grab the perfect shot.

And the results included incredible photos of the moment the planes flew to send plumes of red, white and blue smoke over the sky during their routines as well as a video capturing the moment.

Russ Edwards said: “This was yet another great and very exciting experience to work with Blackpool Tower and to collaborate with the Red Arrows.

“Views like this never cease to amaze. It was our absolute honour and privilege to train and guide officer commanding Adam Collins of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team to the flagpole to gain the best possible vantage point of his incredible aerobatic display team.”

Aaron Edgar Head of Operations at The Blackpool Tower added: “It was a great honour to see the Red Arrows once again making a huge impression above our glorious Tower.

“It is a moment we will never forget… a special moment for Blackpool and everyone who turned out to witness the skills of this incredibly talented team!”

Around 200,000 people attended the two-day event as crowds packed the resort’s promenade.
