A boy from Billington has managed to trade up a paperclip until he got a Nintendo Switch, worth around £250.

Seven-year-old Sam Lynas started the challenge in April and has since been swapping items for those with more value.

He has now achieved his goal and got the gaming console from a Blackburn electronics shop on Wednesday (August 9).

Sam was inspired to take on the challenge after watching a YouTube video where a person traded up a paper clip to a house.

The console is set to be donated St James’ Church in Clitheroe, which Sam also attends, to help with their youth work.

Sam said: “I am really proud of myself for completing the challenge and I have learned so much.

“We will be giving the switch to the youth club them later this week. They we will pleased, I am sure.

“The other children will have so much fun playing with it – I go to the church and I will be playing on it too which I am also looking forward to.”

Sam made several swaps over the months, trading a paperclip, pen, tin of beans, jigsaw puzzle, Nintendo DS (an older version of the Nintendo Switch) and range of games.

The St Leonard’s CofE School pupil made the final swap at CEX Blackburn.

His dad, Tim Lynas, taught Sam some valuable lessons about the value of objects and the importance of working together.

He said: “Sam was really happy and excited when he made his final trade on Wednesday.

“I think the Lancashire Telegraph’s coverage really helped [with the challenge].

"Sam has always been fascinated by how much things cost. I think it has helped him to grow and learn more about how things can be exchanged and their value.

“We are not sure what Sam’s next challenge will be. I am sure he will come up with something creative.

“The staff at CEX Blackburn, including Ibrahim Malek, were very helpful.”
