The landlord and landlady of a popular sports pub in Clitheroe are holding a leaving party after announcing their retirement.

Pauline Brown and Mick (who is better know as 'Buster') Brown are departing from The Castle Clitheroe in Station Road after running the pub for the last four years.

The decision was made so the couple could spend more time with their family as they recently welcomed their newborn grandchild into the family.

To celebrate their departure, Pauline and Buster are holding a leaving party on Monday (August 14) from 8pm, where the Manchester United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers game will also be playing.

Buster said: “Everyone is welcome to join us have a few drinks to celebrate and see us off on Monday.

"Pauline and I have had a fantastic time over the last four years and have made lovely friends.

“When we took it over, it wasn’t doing a lot of business. The pub took in around £1,000 a week whereas now we’re doing £8,000 to £10,000 a week.

“We spend £25,000 on the beer garden and the owners Vintage Inns and Taverns, owner by Mark Poyner has been a brilliant boss.

"We spent £25,000 on the beer garden which is fantastic, especially over the summer when we’ve had singers – it’s been really busy.

“We’ve enjoyed our time but we’re ready to take a step back now and retire to our lovely caravan. But we’re not just going to disappear, we’ll still be coming in to the pub.”

Buster will spend some of his free time on a side business with his friend where they will both sell shots to pubs and bars part-time.

While running the pub, Pauline also worked for a company in Chorley and will continue her job there.

Stepping down as landlady means she will have time to support her son and his girlfriend who has a baby on the way.

A new landlord will be taking over The Castle Clitheroe following the couple’s departure.

Buster said: “We have loved every minute of running this amazing pub in this great town.

"We’ve met so many great people along the way and had some nights we will remember forever.

“We want to thank you all for your continued support and we hope you continue this same support to the new landlord.”
