Plans have gone in to transform a former pub and furniture warehouse into a community centre.

Abdul Rahman has lodged plans with Pendle Council seeking permission to change a former pub on Stanley Street in Nelson into a community centre which would be available to hire for functions and events.

The building has been more recently used as a furniture warehouse.

A design and access statement reads: “The applicant wishes to bring a derelict public house into beneficial re-use to provide the local community a place to meet and have functions and private parties.

“The proposed use would operate in a similar manner as other local community hubs and would help meet local community requirements.

“The application site comprises of a commercial end terrace property which consist of a ground lobby area with an office which leads upstairs to the first floor public house with an open plan floor area.

“Local families and communities will be able to hire the establishment to hold private functions and parties.

“The site is close within the local town and visitors will be able to park their vehicles on either one of the local public car parks within the vicinity.

“The site is considered to be suitable for the proposed intended use – the proposed use would be of a similar use and operation as the current use.

“As a result, it is considered that the site is suitable for the proposed use without significant alteration.

“The occupants of neighbouring dwellings would not notice any material change in the use of the application site.

“Whilst there would be activity at the property - this would be very low key and would not have a discernible impact upon neighbouring properties.”

Anyone wishing to comment on the plans can do so via the Pendle Council planning portal before August 14.
