A man from Burnley is taking part in the extreme challenge of walking from Lands End to John O'Groats, a 1,900km route stretching the length of the UK, in aid of Pendleside Hospice.

Shaun Foxcroft's challenge will take approximately 60 days to complete, linking the two extremities of Lands End in the southwest and John O'Groats in the northeast.

Lancashire Telegraph:

He is fundraising on behalf of the Pendleside Warriors, a group of people who have come together to support Pendleside Hospice.

Shaun said: "I want to recruit an army of fundraisers to Pendleside Warriors, as it will take a long time to raise £1 million.

"In the past we have done a couple of pilot fundraising walks from Pendleside Hospice, to Pendle Hill and back.

"It's started to develop now as people are trying to spread the word, and that's how we're going to make it get bigger, with a network of people sharing the story."

Businesses, community groups, and individuals can sign up as 'Warriors' by creating a JustGiving page via the campaign, and then complete a fundraising event in the name of The Pendleside Warriors.

Some of the physical challenges the Warriors are planning include running, cycling or walking from Pendleside Hospice to Pendle Hill and back, with a distance of approximately 20km or 12 miles, and can be completed on any day and time.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Shaun has previously completed the Dragons Back Race (380K) in Wales in September 2021, a six day marathon from Conway Castle to Cardiff Castle.

He has been documenting his journey on TikTok, uploading videos of his views and miles he completed for the day.

Shaun added: "Everyone has been affected by cancer. Ten years ago my grandma and uncle were diangosed with pancreatic cancer and died really close together.

"I heard Pendleside Hopsice were going to lose £1 million due to Covid-19 in the news, so that was my call to action to do something about it.

"I'm loving it, I'm four weeks in to a 10 week challenge and done around 450 miles. It's been full of ups and downs but people are loving my vlogs on the Pendleside Warriors Facebook page."

Pendleside Hospice, on Pendleside Colne Road, provides for the individual needs of people with cancer or other life-limiting illnesses.

They offer in-patient, day therapy and hospice at home services, and support for families and carers.

All their services provided are free, as they rely on the support of the local community.
